On this past September 25th the lives of one local family were changed when a routine surgery took a turn for the worst. Diane Kovaleski, a 30-year old mother of one, went into Hershey Medical Center to have a tumor removed from her optic nerve behind her left eye, only to face unseen complications and hardship. When the tumor was removed it caused bleeding that the doctors struggled to control, leading to a massive stroke. Diane's survival was nothing short of miraculous. She has since been fighting for her life from the confines of a coma, while her 2-year-old daughter disappointedly waits on the porch for mommy to get home from work with each passing evening.
Diane's friends and family have come together to promote a benefit concert and raffle to aid paying the mounting medical expenses so she can continue fighting for her life with the best available care. Subsequently named Dollars for Diane, the event seeks to raise funds for the mounting medical expenses already starting to manifest, placing a financial strain on a household already in crisis. The show, set for October 28th, will be held at Ole Tyme Charlie’s, River Street, Plains with a $5 minimum cover charge (doors open at 7:30 pm) with 100% of admission proceeds being donated.
Acts slated to perform at Dollars for Diane include: The New Crush Duo, Farmer's Daughter, M-80, City Sleeps and The Drama Club. Local businesses have donated a generous selection of prizes for the raffles and giveaways, with more being added continuously as the day of the show approaches. With an estimated $2,000 in goods and gift certificates donated already, the raffle is shaping up to be quite a bargain at $5 ticket/3 for $10, with 100% of raffle proceeds being donated.
Prize highlights include: pieces from local artists, a custom guitar donated by a local musician valued at $400+, gift certificates for everything from tattoo's, massages, hair styling, local restaurant fare, to a free roundtrip bus fare to Atlantic City. Current raffle sponsors include: Starbucks, Tropic Pet Center, Holiday Hair, 5-7-0 Tattooing, Bakovi Natural Foods, Odyssey Fitness, Dick Ackourey, Piestrak’s Gun Shop, Tips and Toes, Martz Trailways, Larissa Marie’s Styling Salon, JJ Banko's Pub and Grub, Cinemark Theaters and Mickey's Hair Salon.
